“They Say”
First thing I noticed about this short story is that the setting is placed immediately. In the first sentence you can get a feel of what the memoir is going to be about. Besides setting I also noticed the use of descriptive diction. The way it is written and organized into short few sentence paragraphs makes it easy to ready. Also makes you want to read it because it does not seem long.
The point of view is interesting. I like it in the second person point of view because it pushes the story in a way you feel more connected to you it. I also enjoy the transition from happy comments about the baby to the struggle of trying to get pregnant. It conveys the pain of the author to her audience, while the audience is imagining it is them as they read.
Truth shows through in this writing a lot as well. People do say things like this when you have an adorable baby. When you are an older women with a baby some people say rude comments as well. Truth is also being show through the day in a life of “you” as you do normal things with a baby.
When it comes to edicts this story could be a perfect example. All the people who play a part in this piece are unnamed and not given specifics about them. This is good because with no one being named you should no legal issues with publicly displaying this piece, in which case this author did so.
